Nicole Ari Parker (born Nicole Ari Parker) is an American actress, who is employed in television, film as well as theatre. The most famous of her roles is Teri Joe the fiery lawyer on The Showtime show Soul Food. Her name is currently her married name, Nikki Kodjoe. As a child within Baltimore, Maryland, she was always fascinated by acting. In the Maryland high school contest in her early years of schooling, she won the prize for the best actress. In the years following her work in theater, and with 'The Washington Ballet Company' she received a master's degree in acting from 'New York University. The family was born in Mumbai, India and raised in Nigeria up to 7 years old, Contractor was a seasoned traveler who enjoyed the world and an array of different cultures from a young age. At the age of seven through nine, she was a student at boarding schools in London. The family later relocated to Toronto where she lived for most of her childhood. Contractor was a successful academic in Toronto and also trained as a ballerina. She attended the Etobicoke School of the Arts, a high school for the arts that was specifically designed to be a school that taught not only dance, but also drama. Contractor aged 16 at the time she realized that acting would be her career. She had danced for over a decade. After she had completed high school, she received an all-inclusive scholarship to the University of Toronto. At the University of Toronto she completed a Masters in Theatre and was also a double major in Psychology and Sociology. Contractor attended the highly-regarded Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After an entire year, she was awarded the role of lead. In 2002, Canadian reviewers praised her performance during 92 performances of Pericles. Contractor was given the chance to take part in the conservatory course, in which the top eight men and four females are selected for a 20-week crash course on classical theater which she was eager to take. Contractor got a confirmed place for the next season. She was also offered the role of Hermia.
